I know everyone has been waiting for my OFFICIAL review :) :
MY REVIEW of RESURRECTION by Tucker Malarkey :
This is the story of young nurse Gemma Bastian, who travels to Cairo from war-torn England to manage the affairs of her archaeologist father who has died (mysteriously). She is determined to learn more about his recent research on the Lost Gospels, which at the very least, has stirred some controversy among his peers including those from the Church--and at the most, was the cause of his death.
Malarkey attempts to tell as story that is filled with danger and drama...while others are killed, Gemma always seems to be safe, even as a woman traveling alone in the foreign city. There is also a bit of love triangle weaved in between Gemma and the two sons of her father's colleague, but it is forced and I never really bought into it.
So if you enjoy Historical Fiction, as I do, and have been drawn into the mystery of Mary Magdalene, as I have been, then it is definitely worth your time. Overall, I give the book 3 out of 5 stars.
A little background about the book and the Author:
Markey developed the fiction based on the material that Elaine Pagels presented in her bestseller "The Gnostic Gospels," "Resurrection" grapples with the circumstances surrounding the discovery of those ancient texts, which call into question the founding of Christianity and the role of women in Church history.
Malarkey, a San Francisco native, spent four years working on the Washington Post's Foreign Desk and then with columnist Haynes Johnson on the book, "Sleepwalking Through History," a best-selling account of the Reagan years.
EXCITING NEWS - I just got my hands on a copy of the other book that everyone is talking about, THE EXPECTED ONE by Kathleen McGowan. Kathleen says she is a descendant of a union between Jesus and Mary Magdalene...(okay Kathleen...if you say so. I'm a descendant of Adam and Eve). Anyway...I am going to take a break from this subject for now and read KING OF LIES by John Hart as I originally planned. The Big Boss at work raved about this book...we'll see if I agree with his taste in fiction. Once I am done with that...I'll check out THE EXPECTED ONE.
