So I dropped off RESURRECTION by Tucker Malarkey with the nun from my High School, who I mentioned was interested in reading this book in my earlier post. I'll definately share her review (if she gives me one).
The reviews on this book (from the non-nun community) just keep coming... Here's one posted today in the Seattle Times "Resurrection" echoes "Da Vinci Code" but brings healing" In his article, reviewer John Hartl says "The chief difference between Brown and Malarkey is the healing spiritual dimension that Malarkey brings to her story. Brown isn't interested in much more than whether Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married and produced persecuted heirs. Malarkey is more responsible than Brown about mixing fact and fiction, and her characters are less cardboard-textured." I personally think both authors could do a little better character development.
Today, I came across a copy of BEYOND BELIEF by Elaine Pagels, author of the GNOSTIC GOSPELS (the book Malarkey based details from her story on). I see a pattern in my reading list developing.... but I'm going to keep plowing through KING OF LIES by John Hart first. It will be a few days before I have something to share on this Non-Davinci Thriller.
THE EXPECTED ONE by Kathleen McGowan is also getting some good attention.
She was on GMA on this week, and everyone's buzzing about her. Here's a link to the first chapter. And here is a link to McGowan's response to the feedback she received on her recent appearance on the GMA show.
Was it Mary Magdalne in the Last Supper....? McGowan says:
"I do not believe that Leonardo Da Vinci painted Mary Magdalene in his "Last Supper." I do not, in fact, believe that Leonardo would have ever painted Magdalene willingly or voluntarily into any piece of artwork.
We know historically that Leonardo Da Vinci was a misogynist. He didn't like women; some would say he hated women. Therefore, the idea of old Leo as the defender of the divine feminine ideal, and Mary Magdalene specifically, doesn't add up. "
Check out her entire response...
ALSO I just saw that THE EXPECTED ONE by Kathleen McGowan is now available on Zooba.com for just $9.95 each NO SHIPPING and HANDLING. Zooba's the cheapest place I know of to get new books. Its a great site. Check it out.
