THE EXPECTED ONE by Kathleen McGowan was a long book, but a very captivating read. It is the story of writer Maureen Pascal who in researching the story of Mary Magdalene. Through her research and divine intervention, Maureen and her friends uncover an ancient mystery, that thousands of people have killed and died for - a powerful new gospel - the life of Jesus as told by Mary Magdalene.
McGowan weaves Maureen's story with the gospel of Mary in a way that keeps you reading page after page. She jumps back and forth in history, making not only connections to the present, but to the stories as told by the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
At the end of the day...I have the same complaint that I had with the DaVinci Code as well as Ressurection. These characters should be in danger as they uncover the truth, (I mean, people DIED for this story...) but yet the authors never take it there. They just go on their fact finding missions, uncovering secret societies and never have any serious problems.
All in all, I really enjoyed this read. I give it 5 out of 5 stars. McGowan did a great job.
