THE KING OF LIES by John Hart makes for a good debut novel

Just finished THE KING OF LIES by John Hart.

In this thriller, Jackson Workman Pickens, "Work" (as he is called by friends and family), has just learned that the body of his father, famous lawyer Erza Pickens has been found. Work is the main suspect in the murder, and he is determined to protect family secrets, even if it results in his being convicted of murder.

I think this is a good debut novel, but it tends to drag at times. Maybe its because this takes place in The South, but the police seem a little slow. Hart's nickname for Jackson Workman Pickens, "Work" drove me crazy. The author's character development, especially of supporting characters could use some work, but to be honest, it is as good as most of the thrillers I have read. I think this is another good beach read. I give it 4 out of 5 stars as a debut thriller. Not sure why the big boss raved about this one so much...
